Powers, described by Sony as an edgy new dramatic series, follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim. In the series, the detectives are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as “Powers.” Walker is played by Sharlto Copley (Maleficent, Elysium) and Pligrim is played by Susan Heyward (The Following, 666 Park Avenue).

According to Sony/PlayStation, viewers of the first-look trailer will note that Powers centers on Walker’s journey as a hero who lost his powers and struggles with losing what made him great. As the studio put it:

Offering fans a glimpse of the production’s gritty tone, elaborate sets and memorable characters, this new footage was revealed by executive producers and co-creators of the graphic novels, Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, plus stars Susan Heyward, Noah Taylor, Eddie Izzard, Olesya Rulin, and Logan Browning, all of whom shared their experiences on the project so far.

PlayStation owners will be able to download or stream individual episodes of Powers. Members of PlayStation Plus will be able to view the entire series for free and obtain exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.  The premiere episode of Powers will be made free for everyone, regardless if they own a PlayStation or not.

Powers will be released this winter.
