The unthinkable has happened. Brian Michael Bendis has left Marvel to sign exclusively to DC Comics.

Known for creating and working on popular characters such as Miles Morales, Jessica Jones, Invincible Iron Man and Spiderman he also worked on long runs of several Marvel books such as Ultimate Spiderman, Daredevil, X-Men and Avengers.

Marvel released a statement:

“Brian is a great partner and has contributed incredible stories and characters to the Marvel Universe over the years. We appreciate his creativity and professionalism, and we wish him the best on his future projects.”

Losing Bendis is a big blow to Marvel as his roughly seventeen years at the company comes to an end. It seems he has started to write for DC and it will be interesting to see how his style fits in to the DC Comics Universe as he is known to be forward thinking in creating characters as well as making a commitment to long term storytelling; staying on books for years.

DC Comics seemed thrilled as they should considering his previous work:

Looks like Bendis has a renewed sense of purpose:

David has an undergraduate degree in Drama and first showed symptoms of a mind blown by cinema after watching The Godfather too many years ago to remember. He enjoys binge watching TV shows because that is the only way to watch them, right? The West Wing, The Sopranos and The Wire rank among his favourites of all time; the list could go on but changes the more he watches. Books, comics and games are also enjoyed in different moods. Finishing that novel is a life ambition.
