“You look like a potato in a shit casserole” so spoke Eugene at Father Gabriel. Eugene is the star of this episode. For all his allegiance shifting and back stabbing Eugene is one of the best characters on the show and he steals every scene he is in.

“You will know what the right thing is when the time comes” Father Gabriel tells Eugene in an emotional scene if rather on the nose directing as the light comes through the window barely lighting Father Gabriel.

Negan charms Eugene shaking his hand in a reminder that he does not do that often. The show of respect and the offer of being second in command shines brightly to Eugene who looks to send a drone to lure the walkers away. Dwight of course shoots it down and tries to reason with Eugene that only Negan has to die to save Eugene’s former friends; Rick and everyone else. Eugene does not support going against Negan as he wants to stay alive. He does promise to keep Father Gabriel alive. This episode is cooking at the right temperature. Negan…still the best villain on Television.

Plans are important in a war but sometimes on the ground choices need to be made. Rick and Daryl’s showdown will be compelling. Despite objections to Daryl no-one did enough to stop Daryl. Daryl’s quest to end it quickly by barging a garbage truck in to the Sanctuary to let the walkers do what walkers do may have tipped the scales back in Negan’s favor. Morgan is on board with it so that is OK then. The best laid plans and all that…

Negan’s soldiers kill some walkers after they kill a lot of his workers in the lower levels. Eugene chickens out of letting others die by refusing to give up Dwight as he interrupts with the other lieutenant’s.

Rick tries to reason with Jadis who takes photos of him “for after” for sculpting…creepy. He does Rick things by beating up everyone before telling Jadis he will kill Negan and the saviors will have a fourth of the spoils. When they get to the sanctuary the snipers are dead and Rick sees his plans being undone.

Solid episode with the main focus on whether Eugene will give up Dwight to Negan. The subplot of dissension over Rick’s plans by Tara, Rosita and Michonne discussing what the right thing to do is echo Father Gabriel’s words to Eugene nicely. Pretty Good.

The mid-series finale next week will end on something exciting to send us off to the Holiday’s right? Rick vs Daryl? Not violently though. Just drama.

David has an undergraduate degree in Drama and first showed symptoms of a mind blown by cinema after watching The Godfather too many years ago to remember. He enjoys binge watching TV shows because that is the only way to watch them, right? The West Wing, The Sopranos and The Wire rank among his favourites of all time; the list could go on but changes the more he watches. Books, comics and games are also enjoyed in different moods. Finishing that novel is a life ambition.
